New Hampshire is the northernmost of the original thirteen states and is situated between Maine and the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Massachusetts to the south, Vermont to its west, and the province of Quebec to the north. Known as the Granite State by virtue of its hills of granite, the state sports a natural beauty that includes 1,300 lakes and ponds and 40,000 miles of rivers. New Hampshire is also the home of the White Mountains, including Mount Washington, Franconia Notch, and the "Man in the Mountain."
Because of its natural beauty and resources, New Hampshire entertains more than a million visitors per year. It offers both warm and cold weather sports and activities to its residents and its many visitors, including skiing and snowboarding, hiking and rock climbing, boating and fishing, and the beautiful and colorful spectacle of its fall foliage.
The Towns of Londonderry, Windham and Hampstead are all located in southern New Hampshire within a triangle comprised of the cities of Nashua to the east, Manchester to the north, and Portsmouth to the east. All three cities have been recently named among the most livable cities in the United States. Londonderry and Windham lie in New Hampshire's Merrimack Valley Region. This region was an historic textile-producing area and is currently the state's center for government and business, including the State capital, Concord. Hampstead is located in the state's Seacoast Region. This region remains an important center for business, recreation and tourism. Portsmouth, located just miles from Hampstead, continues to be an operating seaport, and with its cobblestone streets and revived historic neighborhoods, offers the flavor of an old New England coastal city.
